A Rock-N-Roll extravaganza to benefit Breast Cancer Research of the Lehigh Valley
A message from Matt Metal . . .
Hello All and thank you for visiting the We Rock website.
I have been asked by numerous people how this all got started. I don’t know where to start, but I guess I have to start with hosting the radio show at WXLV 90.3fm on Fridays from 84-94. What a great time this was and I was able to meet some terrific people along the way.
I left the radio show and was just doing my own thing for a number of years, and bam, the phone rings and it is none other than Butchy M! We talked for awhile about everything, then he got down to the real reason he called. He told me about a great idea called Lehigh Valley Rocks. He was working hard to bring this to life, and he asked if I could help him out, so I said, count me in. This in some sort of strange way, brought me out of retirement. Since I have been out, I have reformed my friendships, mended some broken bridges, and made some new friendships along the way.
One night I was talking to Bruce Reiss and my wife Krysta about how I missed hosting a charity golf tournament that I ran with my good friend Steve Kazmer. Bruce and Krysta said why not something along with music. What a great idea. So we talked some more, did some informal planning over a couple of weeks and low and behold, We Rock 07 was born! For our first year in 07, we hit some road blocks, some potholes, but we learned a lot of what we had to change, keep the same and step up some other pieces. I have to thank the original bands of 07 in Dan Manning, In Skys of Black, Nu World Disorder (who couldn’t play due to an unfortunate incident) Scott Marshall and Marshall’s Highway, No Hero’s, and Spitshine.
They provided the music on a very cold October day and lets make recognition to Chris and Kim Roman of Up and Smoke BBQ. Their insight, guidance and terrific food were a great addition to everything.
Dave Morekin and Steve Nemeth from Cementon Playground, for guiding me along the way. Their knowledge from running Blues Fest helped with getting this event off of the ground!
With all of that said, here we are today.
In our second year, we have doubled our band participation along with adding a poker run in the morning. If you attended last year’s event we thank you for helping us get this idea off and running. We hope to see you back this year and God willing, many more.
Thank you for checking out our website and I hope to see you all September 20th at We Rock 08!
Best regards,
Matt Metal
